1) Turkey is a good friend to the US.
2) Having just undertaken an eight-state US whirlwind tour, I found as usual that the American-man-or-woman-on-the-street is as decent and polite as ever. Many of them are well aware of current problems which they blame on various prominent politicians. ;-)
My point? We're at a bad point in history and that's not a good time for friends to hammer away at each other. Also it must be giving people like Osama Bin Laden a good laugh.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us."
