>The one with Alistair Simm is the one I meant - from 1951. I'd forgotten there was one even earlier than that. I had to look it up - sheesh the original was from 1938 - the year my mom was born! I knew about the one in 1951 and the one with Patrick Stewart.
Talking about Patrick Stewart, I have a set of tapes of him reading the book. He does the voices etc, and it's absolutely mesmerising.
