I did read pretty much the entire article. So in honor of Terry, here's a synopsis:

Much of the article is based on an interview with a couple who became a couple in the last several yrs. They met while working in the govt.

They were involved at various points in diplomatic discussions with various govts in the middle east. There were several points at which they felt real dimplomatic progress was being made. But when it appeared they were close, the white house squashed what they were doing.

They feel that the tone is similar to prior to 9/11. As many ex-gvot employees have noted that there was a "we must attack Iraq" feeling as soon as 9/11 happened, there is now a we must attack Iran feeling. Led by the neocons, of course.
