>- Run the application from the server rather than the local workstation. The idea of an app launcher was a good idea ten years ago when we had 10 MPS networks. However, with today's fast servers and 100 MBPS or even gigabit networks, there really isn't much of a performance issue with installing the app on the server and running it from the workstations.

I've always done it this way (and never had complaints about speed). So the program and all the data resides on the server, never a workstation. My program is also called LAUNCHER, but it just runs the latest version (the program name is followed by three digits, so the first version is 001, the second is 002, etc. and LAUNCHER runs whatever has the highest version number). This allows me to drop in a new version during the day (if it's a bug fix for someone, I just tell them to exit and restart the app). How would Vista view this? They are running LAUNCHER every time, which runs the latest version of the app (also an EXE), so Vista should never really "see" the actual program, though I suppose it could with all the capabilities an OS has. One EXE running another might even be considered a "bad" thing - a possible virus-like behavior.
