I'm not trying to be rude. But if you have to ask this question, you don't even know the rudimentary aspects of dotnet. And you're asking me to become your teacher to bring you up to speed.

I think at a minimum, before you ask this kind of question, you read a C#/Vb.net 101 book, so you understand the basics first.

Hash maps might be a data structures 101 concept, but they are not really a C#/Vb.net 101 concept.

VFP handles most of a programmer's data structure needs without the need for the programmer to understand concepts like linked lists, stacks, queues, hashes, bsearches etc. These are rarely needed in VFP. They are however important to understand in .net.

I understand your frustration with people who won't do the leg work, but the way you worded your response was not very helpful. The OP in this case seems far from being a major offender in that area. He did not ask you to write his code for him. He only asked if you would elaborate a bit. And frankly you jumped down his throat for it.

If you didn't have time to elaborate, it would have been simple enough to have said:

"I don't have time to explain further, Google hash maps and you'll get the idea."
