>>>Ridley Scott directed. Harvey Keitel and Keith Carradine are French officers from about 1790 to 1825 who fought a series of duels. Every shot could be framed and hung on the wall. Stunning. Put it on your Netflix list, you won't be sorry.

>>You just reminded me. Australian film
Breaker Morant. Superb.

>>BTW, seeing 'Ridley Scott' reminded me to ask you (since we seem to like the same books) if you've ever read
Riddley Walker by Russell Hoban. For my money, one of the great achievements in literature.

>I started it once and just wasn't in the mood for the dialect styling. ( first time I read Faulkner it hit me that way as well ) On your recommendation I'll look into it again.
It's more than a 'dialect'. It represents a complete devolution in language to parallel the devolution in society. Once you get 20 or so pages into it, it does become easier. By the time you're halfway through it, it almost becomes second nature.
Also, there must be a gender thing to it that I don't really understand. My brother and I found it very uplifting, while my sister and my mother found it depressing. We all agree however, on the value of reading it. Imho, it's a true masterpiece.
Hoban said "I was a good speller before I wrote that book; I no longer am but can live with that."
