gotta see Shawshank, Al. It takes you through so many emotions. It's also a bit like "The Color Purple" (another brilliant film) in that there are so many scenes that finish, leaving you feeling that the film has concluded, only for another scene to start and you think "Brilliant! There's more!", although the "false" ending would have left you satisfied. You map the years the guy's been in gaol by the changing pin-up on the wall, going from Betty Gable, through Monroe, etc. I think this could rate as my favourite of all time, and I do think it's up there with the popular ratings too.

I was the same way about it... I always saw it on TV but never sat through the whole thing. It took me maybe 5 or 6 times to actually get through the whole movie, but now everytime I see it on I have to sit down and watch it. Great movie.
I would also like to nominate Forest Gump.
