Due to some .VXD errors and therefore Win 95 could not just start normal, I was forced to have to reformat the hard disk and reinstall all the software.
I have gone through this circle at least three times now.
I format the hard disk successfully. Have a device= point to the right .SYS file for the CD-ROM drive and MSCDEX.EXE run in autoexec.bat. Windows installs successfully or almost successfully.
But trouble begins when win 95 takes over. Any CD-ROM drive access freezes the whole system. Windows stops responding to anything I have to reset the machine. Even clicking on the My Computer icon grounds the system. The problem disappears when the machine is in DOS mode. I can type dir and see all the files on the CD. But running dir on the CD-ROM in a dos shell within windows halts the whole thing.
All the useful software is on CDs. If you have a clue as to why and how to resolve this problem, please I need it bad.
