Colin -

Our print setup is much more generic - users print to their local printers, printer environment is not saved with reports. Works very well in that configuration. I can imagine that hard coded printers are a problem since Citrix seems to view your local printers as network printers as far as I can tell.

Obviously speed will depend on your internet connection. But if that's fast enough then there is no sluggishness at all. In fact, because my customer is running Citrix on macho Dell dual-Xeon servers, our app is actually more responsive when I run it remotely from their site via Citrix than when I run it locally on my network. True I have a 6 gigabit internet connection, but as far as I know they have been able to run Citrix over DSL connections in the 600K range with no complaints. One advantage of Citrix vs Remote Desktop is that Citrix can be configured to show the app in its own window on your local computer without a complete remote desktop. Seems to do a good job of minimizing traffic, even with VFP.

I'm not sure how much slower a London to NY internet connection would be. I visit the BBC web site frequently and it seems quite snappy, even when I play news videos.

>My client has just started running it in NY at JFK with all users in Manhattan and JFK offices using VFP via Citrix - printing was an absolute nightmare - they do a lot of printing to impact and thermal label printers which are controlled by standard VFP reports with hard coded printers - could we get the system to print to the correct printer? it either printed to the default printer or not at all - in the end I had to change the printing process to

>>I can't speak to the multiple country issue, but one of my customers runs our VFP9 / Sybase app via Citrix from about 80 locations around the US via the internet with great success. Originally each location ran a local copy of the VFP app with a local database, and the databases all replicated changes to a central database at corporate HQ. The switch to Citrix and a single centralized database 2 years ago made support and maintenance infinitely easier.

>>The app makes extensive use of Word via COM, and that has worked just fine with Citrix. Also, we have a VFP COM object that is accessed in Word via a macro and that also works on Citrix.
>>
>>The only major issue we ran into was that since VFP is fairly resource intensive, they were forced to add a couple of extra Citrix servers in a farm arrangement to get good response time. Apparently that is relatively easy to do with Citrix.

>>>One of my Clients who has installations in NY UK and Germany is getting very enthusiatic about a central computer serving all 3 countries the users of which would communicate with the server via Citrix (presumably over the Internet) - anyone have any experience of this sort of set up and what are the advantages and disadvantages?
>>>
>>>The systems are all running VFP9 but are vastly different in each country because of different Client profiles and local trading differences
>>>
>>>Thanks
