Are you expecting the participants on this end of the political spectrum to recognize an abstraction? It's contrary to the common way of thinking here. You shouldn't be surprised that it's now all about Mexico. If you want it to be understood, you need a truly neutral example.
It would be interesting to see how can anything neutral be built around starting a war ;).
