Some of that knowledge is helpful in the "other" life, outside the job. Besides, you never know if this other knowledge doesn't help you. Sometimes, even at work < g >, the best ideas come from different fields.

For K-12, I agree with you. Children/teens need a well rounded education. But once you've graduated and are _paying_ to go to school, I don't believe you should be forced to take courses that you have no interest in.

If I could have taken a 6-month in-depth programming course and gotten this job, I'd've been making the money I am now _6 years_ ago. And I wouldn't be $25k in debt. That 6 years of experience would have been far more valuable to me than 6 years of classes taken because I had to and forgotten immediately after.
