It's an email and calendaring program. Also behind it are "lotus notes databases" that you can use for pretty much anything. Don't think of these as relational databases, but simply a place to store documents and files that can be shared. It has it's own programming language. The email is only partly MAPI compliant. There is some stuff on the Fox Wiki or look on the IBM web site

FYI, Domino is the email server. The competitor to Exchange.
