Assuming you are running XP, I assume he meant disk management - in the control panel, administrative tools, computer management. This opens a system console applet, where somewhere low on the treeview on the left you can pick disk management. That's where you can get more detailed information on your disks and partitions. Now let's not get carried away, "more detailed" is by no means Tolstoy style - you get a couple of tidbits which aren't available elsewhere, plus you can change the assigned letter or attach a disk, unix-style, to a point in another disk's directory tree.

You should be able to see what does your system think about the state of your disk.
