That's how it ends. There is lots of speculation on what happened. Earlier in the episode, Tony was sitting out in the row boat with his cousin, who he whacked in a previous episode. The cousin says, "just before you die everything goes black". So, there are some who say Tony and family were killed in the restaurant. Others say he lives on. David Chase says the answers are there if you look for them, but didn't elaborate.
