That would be the coaches call, but a player who had stats in their contract as added bonuses would have no problem adding more pain to the score. Also, just this morning Mike Golic (from ESPN's Mike and Mike) said that he was embarrased as a defensive player when the quarterback took a knee to kill more time and end the game. He wanted to play each and every down. That was what he was paid to do.
