Advice on serial communications with Visual Foxpro
I have a 386 running a FP2.6 DOS application that reads and requests data over a serial link, does a table seek and then stores data in a foxpro table on a Netware server. Comet is used to read the serial port (3rd party tool).
I have ordered Visual Studio and would like to rewrite this interface. Can VFP 6 read and write to a serial port in a stable way or do I need another 3rd party tool? Or should I rewrite this program in Visual Basic or Visual C++ (I have heard they are better at serial communications) and then get them to write to the Foxpro tables on the server. Which option is easier? Use VFP (weak with serial comm) or use VB or VC (weak at manipulating VFP data)
Any thought or advice greatly appreciated.
Note: The tables on the server will continue to be in foxpro since the main database application is written Visual Foxpro. This serial communication app only feeds data into the main application.
