He gave 37billion to Bill Gates charitable foundation. He stated in an interview that he waited 50 years to find the right foundation to give to. What I don't understand is why the wait? There are plenty of worthy causes that don't have a high administrative overhead.

>>>If Warren Buffet REALLY wanted to pay more taxes, all he would have to do is write a check to the US Government and voila, more taxes paid!
>>
>>Actually, I don't think this is so. AFAIK, the US gov't. has no provisions for accepting donations.
>>
>>Buffett is right that the rich pay far too little in taxes. I was listening to an interesting interview yesterday about CEO pay, which is totally out-of-line with the pay scale of the folks who actually make the widgets. People getting paid hundreds of millions of dollars a year. Ridiculous.

>Whether there is a provision or not, the US Government will not turn down a check. I don't know why anyone would want to give it to them though because most likely, it would go to a pork barrel project, or some other method of mis-spending. If I were in his shoes, I'd give a ton of money to the Red Cross, the Christian Children's fund and spread a bunch of it around some of the Veterans organizations. I'd also spend a bunch on small police and fire departments. Then there's St Jude (HQ right here in Memphis), and a bunch of other things he could do with his money.
