This example reflects very well the way Windows is built. As Carlos said, it is convoluted and overly complex. One can feel it, and one can feel that they are afraid of touching any line of code more than 2 years old, because they don't know which could be the side effects. How can they do refactoring this way?

I do not envy any Developer working in Windows in Redmon.
