Now it's my turn to say "are YOU psychic"? Exactly what I had in mind - if it's one of today's cheap disks, the time spent on writing these messages (and messing with the disk) is already worth more than the disk's worth, specially after the data from it were retrieved and backed up.

I'd just buy another one and send this one to the manufacturer to have some fun with. They can probably put it to good use (i.e. sell it in some less demanding country).
