Just seen a piece on the above and it was suggested that the chinnoks pick up their water from the convenient Pacific. This made me think, wouldn't that blight the land with a salt seeding? The Romans used to do that to punish vanquished revolting peasants, to ruin their crops, so they'd starve. Mind you, there'd be the odd fishmeal feriliser!
