Not really a suggestion (or else I'd be there myself), but I'd appreciate it if you could just try Serbia for a bit, then let me know how it is.

As for places with funny sounding names... try Ub (pron: oob). Doesn't mean anything, just a funny short name. Or for impossible-to-pronounce names, Mrčajevci (mrtch-uh-yev-tsy, pronounce R the Scottish way, "Darkstersoners").
