>I've read a couple things about the black bars this week. If you read the DVD case, some movies are in a 1.78:1 aspect ratio, or thereabouts. And others are 2.35:1 ratio.

Yes Perry, and it easy to know why, a standard Wide-Screen TV has an aspect radio of 16x9, wich is 1.78:1, so those movies are fine, the others, also known as ultra wide screen have aspect radios bigger than that, 2.35 is a common one, but there are others, I own 3 high def dvd movies, all have different AR, 1.78, 1.95 and 2.35, did not bother to check my collection of regular definition dvds, probably there I have other Aspect Ratios.
