Aren't there pretty straightforward rules about residency, based on where you reside the majority of the year? I suppose that could get dicey with a pro athlete. What's to stop Jeter from asserting he was not a resident of New York those 10 days the Yankees went on a west coast trip? Maybe he should have to pay state income taxes proportionally, the way long haul trucking companies do.
