I think the current recipients would do just fine in any contestable process. As it is, how can they use the award? If they load it into their CV, a competitor need only mention "innocently" that the community award was actually given by a couple of the recipient's buddies without consulting the wider community, in which case... well, who knows how that will be perceived.


Good point. Tamar mentioned that "it's related to what you've done for the community, not the product." So consulting the wider community, as you put it, would seem fitting (and other approaches less so).

When I first read JB's response, I thought it was a bit harsh. But after thinking about it again, I think I agree with him.

Truth be told, I have the UT personality of the year awards on my CV (and I thank everyone responsible) - would I have it on there, if it were something other than a vote by the community? Hard to say. So good point.
