I was at a local store a couple months ago. I had been thinking about getting one for a while. Just the night before I was at a friends house and we were discussing how the delivery truck showed up at the local Bestbuy on Thurs. So you had to go there every Thurs morning to see if more Wiis arrived.

I asked the manager at this little game store what the secret was to buying a Wii. He looked at me and just said "Ask me nicely". Meaning he had one or two in stock. So I became a Wii owner that afternoon. It's great.
