I have a Dell Insprion 1520 that I got this past summer. 2 Gig RAM. I really like it!

Go with the 1 Gig and Vista, then buy additional RAM from someplace like NewEgg.com and install it yourself. IMO, 2Gig is the minimum with Vista.
