I have a DELL Inspiron 6000. It's LCD failed one month before it's guarantee end. I don't mishandle it but, in addition it's plastic cover cracked.

I disliked DELL. My old notebook was a Toshiba Satellite. It was a good machine.

My notebook TOP list:

1-Sony (I fall in love it's design but Sony notebooks so expensive in Turkey).
2-Toshiba
3-LG (it's keyboard has an excellent design), HP (HP sure better from DELL)
4-Acer
5-DELL

You're lucky. I don't see a notebook in Turkey under 530$ (It was has a linux OS Acer).
