John,
I looked at Dabo a while back with great interest, but eventually realized that it seems to be a 2-person (and busy people at that) effort, which is moving at a glacial pace. It has a lot of potential, but since not much has been happening there, I moved on to other things.
.NET 2008 seems to hold a LOT of promise, and why shouldn't it -- it is the historically famous Microsoft's Version Effort #3, which is when they usually finally get it right. This has been an unofficial "natural standard" with Microsoft almost from day 1, kind of like Moore's law in semiconductor development. MS keeps at it (v.1) and keeps at it (v.2) and keeps at it (v.3), until they finally get it right. I'm not saying it is perfect yet (for example simple data access still needs work), but it is definitely getting there. Which is a good thing.
Personally, I wouldn't go with something "non-standard" like Realbasic, but that's just my own bias.
