>>Start cooking! :o) Turkey, ham baked in brown sugar and butter or syrup, stuffing, candied sweet potatoes, cranberries, home baked rolls and bisquits, mashed potatoes and gravy, every vegetable dish you can imagine, cold salads, pickle trays, raw vegetable trays with dips, sweet potato pie, pumpkin pie, apple pie,et al. It's no wonder more people gain weight during this time of year than at any other time!

>Once again, I deep fried a turkey. It is the only way to cook a turkey, as it makes the white meat moist and juicy. I prefer the Cajun Butter marinade that I inject into the bird before frying. I've also had very good results using peanut oil. For those who haven't tried it, you don't know what you are missing. The meat is not oily or greasy, apparently due to the oil being heated to 350 degrees. The only problem is it tends to evaporate, especially with a teenage son hanging around!<g>

A year or two ago when deep fried turkey was all the rage around here the Tribune sent a reporter and photographer out to the suburbs where some guy and his son in law were deep frying a turkey. The picture was classic. The guy had cooked the turkey too long and it fell apart when he took it out. The photographer caught the moment perfectly: "Oh, ****." Get the door, it's Domino's....

The girls had turkey with their mom today so this year we are having ham when they get back on Saturday. My Thanksgiving dinner was soup and Jello while watching the Packers whale on the Lions. No complaints. Brett Favre threw for close to 400 yards and some more TDs. He and the Packers are the feel-good story of the year in the NFL. I freely admit it when I am wrong. I was among those who thought he shouldn't come back this year. Whoops. Being wrong has seldom been so enjoyable. The old gunslinger has led the league's youngest team, a team no one thought was going anywhere, to a 10-1 record. And he still looks like he is the happiest guy on the face of the earth. No wonder even his rivals like him.
