I had assumed that because I'm not a registered owner of VS, I wouldn't be able to download the service pack, but your response prodded me to poke around more thoroughly at the M$ website, and I found it. Also realized I wasn't completely understanding that bit that I quoted from their site. What I thought was an *upgrade* to 5.0a wasn't -- it's just an *update* for 5.0a. All is clear now -- I install VSSP3, that gives me 5.0a with the bug fixes, and then I install the other thing, which updates some wizards, etc.
