>Based on what I'm reading in the paper, I'd say the chance of deportation is a lot higher than 5%. They were told by the INS (which actually is called something else now) to go home and start packing. However, the 60(?)-day delay was seen as a good sign.

The whole deportation proceeding on a 17 year old technicality is so blatantly wrong that I find it difficult to believe that their congressman and senators won't be able to get a special exemption passed. I don't know if it has happened yet but I would expect one TV News story would generate enough publicity so that ignoring it would become politically untenable.
