IIRC, Walter Meester did some tests, with the result that VFP got slower when many aliases were open, even if the aliases were open in different work areas.

But I would not impose a strict limit; the user's desktop will probably get too cluttered way before any other reasonable limit is reached. Or, you could show a warning after opening "n" forms, but still allow the form to open. The warning might read something like: "Opening too many forms may hamper system performance. Proceed at your own risk."
