>It is on the NFL Network, which is in an endless battle with the three major cable companies and is not carried by them. It's about, what else, money. The NFL Network wants to be on free "basic cable" and the cable companies want it to be part of an extra-cost sports package.

>OK, maybe this is a matter of "sematics"....people say that the major players "don't carry" the NFL network....

>It's true, the basic package for Comcast (and I'm sure for others) doesn't cover the NFL Network.

>However, all I had to do was pick up the phone and tell Comcast I wanted to order their additional sports package. I picked up 10 new sports channels (including the new NHL network and the NFL network), and had it available to me in 10 minutes. I don't recall the exact amount I'm paying extra a month....I think it's between 5 and 10 bucks a month.

>Even though I love the NFL network, I'll be honest - it is still more of a niche' product for the true NFL mega-obsessed whacko (like myself).

>The other night on ESPN Radio, the announcer was ripping the cable companies for "not carrying" the NFL network, and never once mentioned that you could buy it for a few extra bucks a month.

Understood. But I think there are an awful lot of us who think we're paying too much for cable already who balk at paying "a few extra bucks a month" for a sports package. I am disappointed to be missing tonight's game (that's in theory, not based on the current score in the game) but what would I really get out of it? A few Thursday NFL games? I have zero interest in watching the NHL. For me it would be essentially equivalent to PPV to sign up based on this one game.
