If you're only concerned about the colour change, you can still use .Enabled = .F., and set .DisabledForeColor and .DisabledBackColor to be the same as .ForeColor and .BackColor respectively.

Craig has a good point, though - usually it's a good idea to give users some sort of visual indication that they won't be allowed to edit the field.
