Even I could go for most of that. I think I would like to add to #2 is that if they are here illegally and not in the system heading towards citizenship or becomming an active guest worker, then out they go.

>1. Close the border
>2. Create a good guest worker program to allow anyone without a criminal background in to work and pay taxes under their own identity. The only taxes they should not have to pay is SSN. If they pay SSN taxes, then they draw them at retirement as well - that is only fair.
>3. Create a visitor's drivers license which cannot be used to vote but requires a written test, an eye exam, and a behind-the-wheel exam (just as we must do as citizens).
>4. Punish employers who hire anyone without legal documentation to reside and work in this country.
>5. Deport any illegal immigrants who break our laws above minor offenses (parking tickets, jaywalking, et al) or who repetively break misdeamor laws as well.
>6. (Added) Allow anyone who is here legally to attend school and college as well as long as they meet the same requirements of any citizen of this country. If they are here legally, let them attend college at instate tuition rates once they reside here for the required minimum period (typically 12 months) as the same rule applies to me. Up until they meet the in-state requirements, charge them the out-of-state tuition rates. They still must meet the admission requirements and totally take away any QUOTAS. Acceptance should not have anything to do with race, creed, sex, sexaul orientation, age, or anything other than merit.

>>>>Oh, we have our share. Toronto is a mecca for both illegal and legal immigrants. There was a news story just today that said that over 50% of all Torontonians were born outside of Canada (and only a very small percentage of those are from the U.S.). The actual City of Toronto is right around 50%. And I'm loving it.

>>That is a huge difference. Canada sees itself as a system of very diverse cultures and national identities. It appears that he feels the U.S. should remain oddly untainted.

>>It appears that there is a bit of misdirection going on here. When you look into the sorts of 'major' crimes the illegals excel in, they mostly consist of illegal immigration and other immigration related crimes. That's hardly surprising. That's like saying that more jaywalkers get jaywalking tickets than non jay walkers.
>>
>>Yes they are over represented in relation to legal citizens in other sorts of crimes (drug dealing etc) too, but that also is sort of axiomatic considering their economic and legal status. People will do what it takes to survive. Survival is a about the biggest motivator there is. Survival is, after all, why there are there in the first place.
>>
>>And yes, I do believe that people who commit real crimes like selling cocaine, robbery, assault, murder, etc should feel the full weight of the law when caught, and if that is or includes deportation then so be it.
