And you don't see a horrible loss of potential in four young men who had bad (terrificly bad) choices?

Not as much as I see a murderer out of the picture, so that he can't do it again.

I don't want to put words into your mouth, but if you're going down the "what went wrong with this kid" road, I have no sympathy. It is not relevant.

(There is some question about whether one of the four "knew" what was going to happen. I'm only referring to the shooter).

On the gun issue and your questions to Kevin Marois...we have an electronic lock box. We were told early on that trigger locks were a joke, and from what I've read about them, I tend to agree with that. I think lock boxes are the best solution, but I'm not as stunned by Mike Cole's answer as other people are.

We teach kids about crossing the street, riding a bike (and driving a car!), about drugs and alcohol, about other dangers....why is this any different? Suppose a kid is at another kid's house, and they come across a gun....I'll bet that if the kid is trained about the dangers of guns in the same way he's trained about other dangers, all will be better off.

There are arguments to be made that better laws on guns might have led to a different end result on the Virginia Tech campus earlier in the year.

Question - do you or your husband own a gun?
