I realise you probably didn't have a choice since there wouldn't be enough room to open the door inward, but how effective is the lock with the hinges on the outside?

Hmmm... that looks sarcastic. It's not meant to be. I don't know anything about electronic locks and I was just wondering if they're more effective than, for instance, a deadbolt (which would be useless with the hinges on the outside).
