A trait of Lhasa Apsos is that their barks sounds like they are coming from much bigger dogs. I had a lab growing up that would bark a lot, and sometimes when the Lhasa starts barking at something is sounds very similar. However, when it growls it sounds like a cat purring, so that pretty much compensates for the scary bark.
