My guess is that murders would go down. It's just different stabbing someone or doing it some other hand-on way. How do you do a drive-by without a gun? How does a kid main/kill another kid playing with a gun without a gun?
Here in Canada we've had a "rash" (3 or 4) of deaths that seem to be associated with Tasers.
While my suspicion is that Tasers are relatively a safe alternative, I do think there is a problem with their design and use.
My main argument is that it's far too easy to zap the culprit again and again. The average tasing here, apparently, involves 3 discharges of the thing.
That's far harder with a gun because a gun does not remain connected to the victim and ready for immediate re-use.
I also feel, and some video backs it up in at least 1 case, that tasers are used wayyyy too early in a 'confrontation'. There's almost no talking with the culprit and certainly no attempt to subdue by physical means.
