There is always the possibility the homeowner can evade the intruders by leaving the home himself (if possible and always the best choice). Two thugs kicking in the door of a senior citizen I think is ample evidence (unless it was relatives or neighbors concerned about his health and that obviously the case) of such a threat and fear.
