I realized I'm incorrect a second later my original response. I updated it once, but you didn't give me a chance to make another update saying

I can only safely conclude from your answer that there is an odd number of children in your family.

There are possible combinations:

1 kid (but this seems to be incorrect)

3 kids

5 kids

7 kids

9 kids

11 kids.

I doubt there could be more than 11 kids in the former USSR.
