O.k. it seems that I confused it with the other end of life: Euthanasia. Now even that topic is open for debate as it involved many steps. However the dutch decriminalised Euthanasia as the first country in the world in modern history (unless I'm wrong again). See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euthanasia

The thing about abortion in the netherlands is that is very liberal and yet we experience one of the lowest abortion rates.
