Of course nobody blames UT for misuse of information we provide.
The flag issue is a "spoof" to emphasize disappointment that some members of this community will abuse trust in this way. People have taken the opportunity to use their imagination to select interesting/amusing flags and details. That is all. It does not hurt you in any way, though it did succeed in drawing your attention to the underlying issue.
If you think this is an over-reaction, you might consider that in other online communities like Wikipedia, pursuing somebody into real life results in loss of privileges and a lifetime ban.
