Please see if http://sqlserver2000.databases.aspfaq.com/are-there-tools-available-for-auditing-changes-to-sql-server-data.html and http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/prodtech/sqlserver/sql2kaud.mspx can be of some help.
If it's not broken, fix it until it is.
