No, it is the American heritage :o) Also, as far as 'conservatism' goes it is usually associated with the far right and Republicans. A very common misconception. The South is full of liberal democratics (the majority) and a large percentage of southerners have weapons (more than I ever saw in any other location of the country).

Although this entire 'me and mine' state of conciousness and 'protect my own' from our history and how this country was founded is slowly going away. The youngest generation is more of a group minded and social minded (good for the whole) generation.
