>>Incorrect lease times and/or leases that do not automatically renew are some of the classic problems that some buggy firmware versions have with certain Linksys routers. There are some sites that discuss these problems in nauseating detail; one decent FAQ that talks about some Linksys models is http://www.dslreports.com/faq/linksys

>>If you have an older Linksys router and you suspect firmware problems (or that the device might be unreliable/failing) just go out and get the WRT54GL router I described earlier and put dd-WRT on it. The only regret you'll have is that you didn't do it earlier.

Why not give the router a static Ip and put that ip as expections for allocation of address(typo here not the exact word dont remember. Worked with it long back abt 2yrs) in the DHCP server..?

that way it will never have to renew for leases .

Example : (You will have to check with binary calculation if it is possible in the current /24 mask the IP address ranges)

DHCP address range : 192.168.1.11 to 192.168.1.50 /24
Exclude IPs reservations : 192.168.1.1 -- DHCP server
: 192.168.1.2 -- Router / (? NAT ?)
: 192.168.1.3 -- DNS server
: 192.168.1.4 -- Wins Server (if any)
: 192.168.1.5 -- SQl server (if any)
....
....
.... : 192.168.1.10 -- ....

Then change the ip of the router to 192.168.1.2 (that will be static) [edit] You will need to enter the MAC address of the router in the DHCP server

What i believe in your case happening is
Router boots with 192.168.1.1
But due to DHCP enabled on the network It trys to obtain a Lease(Buggy Firmware or It is supposed to that way I dont know). Which tryes to renew at 12hrs and fails goes in for failure ...
