I would believe that the router is working fine if it fails when not able to get fresh lease from DHCP server.....so TCP/Ip satck of the router fails is the correct behaviour instead( May be it might assign itself a B class Address IIRC 168... showing that it could not get Ip address or leases extended)

P.S.: I had problems with router configuration enabling involving 3 cross-forests . Although later i came to know it was due to dual NICs install on domains(forests... Bad way ? yes but I couldnt help because they needed it to be configured with minimal expences) not the router. Routers are generally stable arent they ?
