OTOH whats driving them to want to do that. Isn't it a bit like blaming prostitution on prostitutes. Quite a lot of celebrities like Pam Anderson seem quite damaged by fame yet its us (the public) that drives the process. Yeah, I carry on about the cheerleader on Heroes and Meadow Soprano. Neither has had augmentaton surgery. ;)
Seriously...every year, thousands of teenage girls go for breast implants. I find that sad.
And since our country is also talking about the Mitchell steroid/HGH report in baseball....every year, thousands of teenage athletes take steroids. Steroids are dangerous enough, and especially so when taken by teenagers whose bodies are still growing.
A while back, a pro basketball player (Charles Barkley) said something to the effect of, "I'm not a role model....you want a role model? Be a role model to your kids". I think he's half-right, but the fact is that these players wouldn't be making as much $$$ without the support of idolizing young fans. So I find it sad that teens feel they have to feed the machine on topics like this...
