>>Hi all,

>> I'm interested in updating some users from their long list of old R&R reports to an updated app accompanied by a reporting tool they could still manage for themselves, even with my help/tutelege when needed. The app will be VFP 9.0 and the back end will continue to be DBFs for the foreseeable future.

>> So, out there... any experience, opinions, reviews with the two big contenders (to my knowledge): Stonefield Query .OR. FoxFire?

>Unlike the retired Stonefield Reports, I believe that for both Stonefield Query and Foxfire you have to manage the seats/licenses for each customer site, based on the number of users permitted to run the add-on. So you get to deal with administering access for each customer as they add more users. But you could also markup the add-on so its less painful to manage.
I've been known to be wrong on occasion, but this is my take on Foxfire licensing.
See:
http://www.micromegasystems.com/foxfire/licensing.htmI don't see a per seat license requirement except for developers.
If you have a commercial app. (same app. sold to two or more customers) you have to purchase a separate license for each customer.
If it is a custom app. for one customer only, no additional licenses are needed regardless of the number of seats/users at the site.
I think it's a good product that depending on the customer, could require a lot of hand-holding. At times I think I could make a career out of developing reports, but....what the heck...it's billable time:) I just hate developing reports.
