That same system is in effect around Chicago Stadium (whoops, the United Center now), which is in the West Side ghetto. If you don't park in one of the lots ($$) you are wise to give the young local "constables" a couple of bucks. Heck, big deal. If I'm going to drop a hundred dollars or so to go to a ballgame, what's the problem with giving some kid a pittance? It never felt like intimidation, more like "support the local economy." I'd rather see them out there doing that -- on winter nights, remember -- than being a drug runner or lookout.

>It could be worse. I remember when I was in Panama City, Panama if you were a foreigner, someone would approach you to 'watch your car' for you when you parked. It typically cost 1-5 dollars. You didn't dare say No, because if you did, either your car would be damaged or it would be gone when you returned.

>>>Maybe my info is wrong. I was told parking in Manhattan is typically $50-75/day.

>>Probably about right. In 2002, it was $28 before 8am for 10 hrs, and $45 after 8am. Midtown (55th St. and Park Ave.)
